Age and Grade Placement
AUSIS follows internationally aligned age and placement guidelines that ensure students learn with peers of similar developmental readiness. The age rules below indicate our standard entry ages and the considerations used for grade placement.

Early Childhood to Year 5 / PYP
The age referred to above is to be considered within the AUSIS school year. That is, if a student seeks admission prior to school starting, December 31 is in that calendar year. If a student seeks admission during the school year but prior to December 31 the date is again in the school calendar year and finally, if a student seeks admission from January to June (end of the school year) December 31 refers to the previous calendar year.
Year 6 To Year 10 / MYP
The Australian school year begins in January and as such semester I is in January which means August is the beginning of Semester II. As we export data to SIRS in Western Australia we need to use their labels.
However, our students are a half year ahead of Australian students until the final semester of Year 12 and as such our sequence of naming semesters is odd. For example, we begin Year 10 in August but must call it semester II followed by semester I in January to complete their Year 10.
